Born at Zalaegerszeg in 1983, Antal Endre NAGY started his musical education in the music school of Lenti, a small town at the South-West of Hungary. He has entered Bartók Béla College of Music at Budapest in 1997. He obtained the degree of Trumpetartist-Teacher at Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in 2006. His teachers were Frigyes Varasdy and Tamás Velenczei (Solo trumpet player at Berliner Philharomiker).
Paralelly to academic education, Antal has participated to international masterclassses of prominent trumpet players: Niklas Eklund, Balázs Nemes, Gábor Tarkövi, Mark Gould, Bo Nilsson, Marcus Stockhausen, Reinhold Friedrich.
In 2004 he has won first prize at Klassik-Festival Ruhr in Marl as a solo trumpet player. He has been awarded at the same time by EMCY, public and chamber music prizes.
Two years later he has won first prize at the International Chamber Music Competition of Chieri (Italy) as a member of Concert’o Brasso. This year Artisjus prize has also been bestowed on Antal for his excellence in the interpretation of Hungarian compositions.
He is a founding member of In Medias Brass Quintet since 2010. This ensemble has already participated to seven international competitions and has been awarded with 1st prize in South Korea (Jeju, 2010), in Germany (Passau, 2010), in Slovenia (Stanjel, 2011), in Italy (Chieri, 2011) and in the USA (Knoxville, 2013). They have won 2nd prize in Japan (Osaka, 2011) and in France (Lyon, 2012). At Lyon, they have also got the Public Prize and a Special Prize for the performance of the piece of Guillaume Connesson composed for the very competition. In 2011 In Medias Brass Quintet has been awarded with Prima Junior Prize, a national acknowledgement of their results. They received further encouragement for their work by the grant of KLASSZ Talent Program in 2012. Since making his debut in the above competitions, In Medias Brass Quintet has performed numerous concerts upon invitation in Hungary as well as abroad. They have played in Swiss, Germany, Italy, Poland, France, Dubai, USA, South Korea and Japan. The ensemble has given masterclasses in South Korea and in Japan. In 2017 In Medias Brass has organised its first international brass chamber music competition in Szentendre, Hungary.
Antal Endre Nagy is a member and solo trumpet player of Dohnányi Orchestra Budafok since 2002, where he has been elected the Musician of the Year 2016. He has also given solo concerts upon invitation in Germany. At times he participates to the performances of the following orchestras: Budapest Festival Orchestra, Concerto Budapest Symphonic Orchestra, Hungarian State Opera House Orchestra, Danubia Orchestra Óbuda, BM Duna Symphonic Orchestra, MAV Symphony Orchestra, Budapest String Chamber Orchestra, Solti Chamber Orchestra. He has been performing at various national and international festivals like Zemplen Festival, International Opera Festival of Miskolc, Budapest Spring Festival, Mini-festival, Budapest Wagner Days, Geneva Barss Festival, Festival des Abbayes des Landes, Haydn Festival Fertőd.
Currently Antal lives in Ghent with his family.
